A Californian living in “perfect balance” by Dan Brunn Architecture.
Located in the hills of the Californian town of EncinoThis family house has little to do with what was before the architect Dan Brunn to undertake the rehabilitation project. In it, a rustic old house and rather little personality, has become a magnificent spacious, tidy and bright, to enjoy everyday life.
From the beginning, the architect was accompanied by three key elements that usually accompany the project design: price, speed and quality. As he says “either an upgrade or a project from scratch, always strive for perfect balance.” So in six months had completed the design, permitting and licensing, and construction of housing. The end result is this beautiful example of minimalist architecture and interior design.
The role of housing rests with the shared common area lounge, dining room and kitchen. All three revolve around volume floor to ceiling where the chimney is placed. To achieve this open space, eliminated most of the walls, thus allowing a free flow of light, air and the inhabitants of the house. With the open plan, you can open multiple windows at one end pivoting of the house and sliding windows in the living room, enjoying the refreshing breeze without the need for air conditioning in the summer months.
Advocate of the kitchen is “the heart and soul of a house,” the author has arranged along one wall of the open-plan, ranging from living room to the kitchen and creating a “wall of storage.” Its elegant design aesthetics looked as clean as possible by making it completely white, removing any surface and handle gently emphasizing horizontal lines. In it, the island becomes a key element, anchored to the chimney, which is always accessible for use.
In every part of the house, the proportions and characteristics change to fit the space, while maintaining the homogene aspect. In this way, and even around the center of the house, the functional scheme is developed in the traditional way to stay closed, it is still perceived in no time you saw the common style of housing.
In the harmonious and balanced environment that is breathed had a lot to see the choice of materials and equipment, Tasks that the architect spent a long time. To stay within budget and schedule, to find alternatives that would serve to achieve the desired objectives. This meant spending time with the contractor, manufacturers and suppliers to reach many and creative solutions. Specifically, we used new systems of windows and doors, wood paneling and stone, and cabinets were added, all to create a seamless design, fresh and inviting.
