School of Architecture (ESARQ) International University of Catalonia (UIC) hosted an exhibition of 10 prototypes of post-disaster housing scale made by students of architecture. These works are the result of the 14 th edition of Vertical Workshop at the university, which this year was to design prototypes of housing the most comfortable, durable, economical and sustainable. The first prize was awarded to the project “In-house” to meet, according to the jury with all the requirements: ease of installation, transportation and lightness.
The workshop was aimed at the design and construction of 10 emergency housing prototypes at 1:1 for camps and packaging design, the development of a project presentation, and an instruction manual for building these houses.
Participants had to develop prototypes of housing the most comfortable, durable, affordable and sustainable as possible, with minimal financial and material resources. Solar maximum dimensions should be 5mx5mx5m. Within these dimensions, the number of inhabitants was free, with a minimum of 6 persons per household. The deputy director and coordinator of the workshop ESARQ Vertical, Borja Ferrater, stresses that this initiative “is a true laboratory of ideas that may become future projects. In fact, many companies are interested in collaborating and investing in potential projects of its kind in developing countries. “
