The hotel, built with waste collected from some beaches in Europe, represents what might happen to our beaches if we continue to not respect them. Rome, May 31, 2010 – During the week of International Earth Day (June 5, 2010), beer, Corona Extra will launch a unique campaign that includes, as main event, the creation of a hotel made of trash and installed in Rome.

The hotel is conceived and designed by German artist HA Schult, one of the leaders of the world art scene and among the first to address the issue of ecological imbalances. This installation is part of Save the Beach Corona (coronasavethebeach.org / en), a project created in 2008 to promote the conservation and recovery of beaches. “The importance of this project is contained in what the hotel symbolizes: the damage it does to our oceans and our coasts, inside and outside the hotel will not have a ‘look’ very glamorous, will not have no water or electricity , and no comfort, this hotel will reflect exactly what will happen if we do not pay attention to our planet. We live in an era of enormous waste, we produce tons of garbage and this is what they risk being transformed.

And ‘Is this really what we want for our Earth? “Asks Schult. HA Schult (Berlin, 1939, www.haschult.de) is best known for Trash Men, huge installation with thousands of sculptures to human form, constructed using waste and inorganic waste materials. These sculptures have been installed in symbolic places like the Great Wall of China, the Pyramids of Giza and the Red Square in Moscow. Schult artist is considered a pioneer in promoting environmental awareness. Since 1960, he worked for the production of works of art involving the use of waste and scrap material.

Currently, the artist is already working on the conception of the Save the Beach Hotel Corona in his studio in Cologne, Germany. The Save the Beach Hotel, ‘open’ 3-6 of June 2010 is a two-story building that will be able to accommodate up to 10 people per night. Anyone who is sensitive to environmental issues, and willing to take part in this experience, can do so, explaining the intentions that led him to want to stay in the hotel, thus participating in a series of competitions organized through the website of Crown Save the Beach (coronasavethebeach.org / en) and the fan page on Facebook (facebook.com / savethebeach), and win a night in a hotel unique.
