House MYCC Cedeira in Galicia: prefabricated, sustainable and beautiful
This holiday house situated in a Galician landscape print is a good example of how to make “no-build sustainable housing, cheap and most difficult … livable. Cedeira House is a project undertaken by the young studio Madrid MYCC.
Despite being a prefabricated modular house, Casa Cedeira hut does not look “designer”, or recycled container, but it just seems a house has its gable roof (required by the rules of the area) hinged windows and airy interior more typical of an urban loft of a house. Cedeira is located in a remote countryside population of the Galician coast, with an imposing presence of the ocean on the horizon, surrounded by graceful eucalyptus forests and fields of work.
MYCC Architects (Office composed Carmina Casajuana, Beatriz G. Casares and Marcos González) have determined that the shape of the construction is simplified geometry of the traditional house. The resulting volume has been involved in two materials that provide a language with the surrounding landscape: Viroc ®, a prefabricated cement and wood chips of Eucalyptus gray deck and side walls, and the two main facades pierced by weathering steel a silhouette recreates the surrounding forest. The cement gives great strength to the building, despite being a lightweight and easy to transport, the two cut facades lend a strong personality to housing thanks to the powerful play of light and shadows created in the interior.
The house consists of six prefabricated modules at its main plant, the first home to the bedroom, in the second are the bathroom and the stairs, in the third the kitchen, and the last three form the main area of living room. All spaces have been distributed following the open floor layout, giving prominence to the landscape maximum. In the Upstairs there is an attic too diaphanous double-fronted open: to the sea in the southwest and into the woods in the northeast. This multipurpose space is currently not a particular use, can serve as guest bedroom, living room tai-chi or playground.
Cedeira House was built in just three months and has been ridden in two days, and minimally impacting the environment and minimizing the normal costs of the cumbersome traditional construction. His form has been determined by both the program established by customers, a holiday home with open spaces that can enjoy the scenery-but also by the needs of transport and assembly of the various modules that make up the building. Additionally, the building has been designed with high standards of energy efficiency and environmental balance: it controls the generation of waste and emissions.
