Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan has designed this spectacular vacation home located in one of hundreds of rocky islands near the colonial city of Paraty, near São Paulo. Completed in May 2009, has been built on a plot of 5 hectares surrounded by dense forest and has a living area of 1050 m2. The house, structural ingenuity, born from the mountain creating an extension as a terrace living in the jungle, leaving untouched natural environment. Two concrete boxes connected to each other seem to arise from the projecting rock on the beach in an 8-foot overhang is the balance in the difficult topography.
Access to the main entrance by boat. From the sand, one arrives at the entrance by a metal bridge built over a pool of clear water. The bridge leads to the stairs that connect to both the lower level of the house, which houses the public areas including the top, where the bedrooms. The ground floor, with lounge, kitchen and service area is designed as a continuous space of 27 m. amplitude and huge glass windows overlooking the sea. The rooms on the top of the home are protected from the sun with retractable panels made of eucalyptus. The following areas overlooking the mountain are illuminated by overhead light from interior courtyards, which highlights the texture of the cement wall. The whole roof of the house is passable and there are arranged terraces, or gardens with sculptures observatories and medicinal and aromatic plants.
The interior, as spectacular as sober and abroad, has accumulated a large collection of twentieth century furniture, designed among others by George Nakashima, Luis Barragan, Lina Bo Bardi, Sergio Rodrigues, Joaquim Tenreiro and Joseph Zanine Caldas.

Marcio Kogan Architect, born in Brazil 57 years ago, is regarded as the continuation of the great modern Brazilian architects: Lucio Costa, Oscar Niemeyer, Lina Bo Bardi and Vilanova Artigas. His most recognized and awarded projects has been developed in private residences, elegant and minimalist style. In addition to great filmmaker, Kogan loves both his native São Paulo and New York, because they are similar in their chaotic ugliness and multicultural mix of energy. And that’s Paraty House, an impressive blend of modern architecture, New Yorkers made interior design furniture Brazilians or Mexicans, natural building materials and a unique location surrounded by nature.
