The Chihuahuan Desert House by Studio
Another of the challenges faced by the architectural firm of constructive legislation in the area, as it is a traditional style development, one of the rules of the community indicated that at least 80% of the roofs should be inclined. “We’ve reinterpreted the rule and the roof is conceived as a continuous surface but with different inclinations” indicate those responsible. Thus, from the side of the street, the building is only perceived as a single volume, from a height. Although it goes into it, this volume seems simple, the leading circulation spiral downward and the spaces are subdivided into more complex ones. The house is located in the urbanization of a golf club, north of Mexico. The fact be partially buried in the mountainside to harness the thermal mass of the ground and strikes a balance between their temperature differences. The soil, cooler around the house, absorbs the heat accumulated during the day, while afternoon heat gives way to housing.
This fascinating project, designed by Studio, is located in the Chihuahuan Desert, one of the areas with more extreme weather in Mexico. This weather feature has conditioned its form, since the fact of having temperatures ranging over 20 degrees between day and night was the factor that decided to bury the architects of the house for safekeeping heat.
