Located on the outskirts of Goteborg (Sweden ) , stands the Plastic House, work Arkitektur Unit . The house is located in a residential area that has experienced a vast urban development over the past 20 years. The challenge for architects has been to gain views , spaciousness , functionality and light in the daytime areas , meeting the strict constructive force.
As a result of excessive urbanization is a high density of houses in this area , which implies the paradox that , although residents moved here in your day to enjoy the sea view , this is not visible from almost anywhere. This, combined with a tightening of the Swedish rules for accessibility (kitchen , living room, bedroom and bathroom must be accessible for disabled people ) , has meant that, despite the proximity of the sea, many homes may not enjoy it from the spaces where life is more : the kitchen and lounge.
With this perspective , the challenge of the architectural firm focused on the living area open to the outside in search of a privileged environment. The solution devised by Arkitektur Unit has gone through to keep only the foundations of the original house and demolish the old structure, transforming it completely , putting the area at night in the bottom and raising the first floor lounge and kitchen, the most lived in the house.
To help us expand the space for an affordable price , the architectural firm has been based on simple geometric shapes and common materials. Employees abroad reflected also the different activities taking place inside. Thus, the lower , more conventional, is resolved with the typical Swedish liner : a sleek wood paneling tried to oil, as a protection against the weather.

The most representative of the new structure focuses on the top, where the panoramic windows around the house in its entirety . They are made from Plexigrás , an acrylic plastic 5 mm thick , hence the name of the project . Thus, in addition to filling the interior of light, get a privileged view of the landscape. Highlights the wide balcony , connected to the living : it is literally “suspended “in a steel structure , thus compensating for the lack of space.
