Unique custom building by Charles Ferrater
A unique custom building by a roof and asymmetric angular houses the offices of the Group Azaharin Castellón. It is an iconic building that has a close relationship with their landscape. This is the last project that we “give away” Carlos Ferrater, newly appointed National Architecture Award.
Azahar Group unites a group of companies that have strong links to sustainability and the environment. Develop consulting services, both public and private, environmental and construction and other activities of artistic patronage and cooperation in various projects of the Third World. The parent company is originally from Castellón, and given its growth and expansion, wanted a corporate headquarters to reflect their environmental commitment and artistic.
The project, developed by Carlos Ayala Núria Ferrater and contemplates three interventions: group’s corporate headquarters, the greenhouses covered outdoor nurseries and plantations, and a building for ancillary services to the activities of the company. The headquarters building stands as the main building, maintaining a close relationship with the landscape. Both north west mountain topography serves as a backdrop to the building, against which, the covers are cut geometrically. From the distance, its faceted form and profile help place it in the landscape.
This office has been designed to reflect these efforts, relying on elements “design” green visual and learning on the mountainous scenery of Castellón. The original building features a rooftop approach angular, asymmetrical, which follows the backdrop of the mountains in the background but also acts as a conduit for water collection, which is recycled to maintain the vegetation outside. Oriented on east-west the building is divided into two wings connected by a central body around two courtyards open, of different character. The first serves outdoor reception for users and visitors, while the rear garden is more private use. Thus, the building is closed to distant landscape and establishes a complex relationship between interior / exterior. These courts allow cross vision through the glass walls, while avoiding direct radiation to the interior living spaces.
The four wings which house the various departments of the company converge in a hall that, in addition to acting as a distributor, it becomes a large exhibition space and representative. The overhead lighting is introduced into the building through the large skylight developed on a sequence of girders.
