The new show-room furniture brand Vitra in Santiago de Chile is installed in a new building in the traditional neighborhood of Vitacura. Designed by A-cero Architects, the store has been built entirely of wood and occupies a total of 384 m2 distributed over 3 floors: ground floor for the exhibition of products, the first floor for professional studio design projects and a small basement for auxiliary services.
undeveloped land of 480 m2, it was decided to design a new rectangular building, which occupies less than half of the surface, leaving the rest of the site as garden space. According to Ramón Valdés Ruiz, architect of A-zero charge of the project, “in a small field we had to project a volume for Vitra furniture exhibitions. In keeping with the style of his creations, the building must be original, timeless and designed with an architecture based on the items to display, so that they appear with due prominence and could move or changed with ease and flexibility. ”

The building is designed as a box and the result, with a rectangular area of 180 m2 and a total height of 5 m, gives a sense of privacy and protection thanks to their minimum window openings. The interior consists entirely diaphanous two floors linked by a ladder leaning against a wall perforated laminated pine. This unique support wall forms the reception on the ground floor and the rail at the first floor. The ground floor is intended for exhibition and home office furniture from Vitra, as well as products from other brands distributed by Vitra room, while the first floor is the office where projects are undertaken interior. The building is constructed entirely of wood, both in its structure and its siding. Pine has been chosen as the predominant material for environmental reasons (other than a natural and abundant resource in the country, is renewable, environmentally friendly and clean), but also for constructive reasons: they wanted a warm, slender, and the work was done in just four months. For the siding has been used a double laminated pine board finish rough gray green reveals the natural aging of the material. The entire interior structure is also of wood and have left the building materials in sight: metallic elements fastening the beams, air conditioning ducts, electrical installation … The soil is left exposed concrete painted white to give neutral enhance the environment and the furniture exposed.
