Wooden natural park landscape in Portuguese
It looks like a concrete foreign object has landed by accident in the middle of almost magical, wooded natural park landscape Portuguese Peneda-Gerês near the border with Spain. And magically appears that the house hold cantilever protruding from a large rock beside the river, apparently in unstable equilibrium. But the House Gerês not found its place in this landscape and now breathes easy, despite their tensions impossible.
The owners of the house discovered the land of 5,000 m2 happened when water skiing in the area. And they knew it was just what I had been searching for his retirement from the weekend: a place of incredible beauty, surrounded by woods and nature, a lake and no buildings nearby. Once determined by the place, ordered the project to the architectural duo Graça Correia and Roberto Ragazzi, based in Oporto. Guests had known Correia time, and gave him free rein. Asked only two things, that the house should not isolate its dwellers, and they could not cut a single tree.
The house, designed for couples with grown children, has a longitudinal structure simple plant. As part of the building is buried in the ground, the opposite end is cantilevered over the river creating a visual tension of great beauty, part of the orthogonal volume of concrete, the rooms are distributed in sequence, and all space is flooded with natural light thanks to large windows on both sides of the house open onto the forest. Inside, warm thanks to the birch wood paneled walls and ceiling, is furnished with a few contemporary pieces, among which are the sofas in the Italian Paola Lenti. The simplicity of the kitchen bulthaup, fully integrated with the Scandinavian-inspired dining, reinforces the simplicity of a house with no secrets.
